We are planning a trip east from Poole for a week begining 30th August. Not too bothered how far we get. Can anyone suggest some good spots to visit. Either berth for the night or maybe a quiet anchorage. I suggest Brighton as the furthest we will reach on this trip, but who knows? (Weather permitting). Our boat is a Fairline Carrera running on that liquid gold stuff therefore many fuel stops essential.

Head off slow and hit Yarmouth or Lymington for Sunday night as it will be less crowded than on Friday / Saturday. Depending on forecast you can then run south of the island to Littlehampton or into the Solent. Mid solent you have Southampton for the lights or Hamble for more peace, Cowes or up the Medina river to the Folly Inn, or the river to Beauli. Other end Bembridge or into Chichester Harbour and East Head anchorage, Itchinor (visitor mooring and pub) or all the way into Chichester Marina where the food is recommended by some. Back to Littlehampton / Eastborne / Brighton trail if weather looks up for it. Mid week a lunch at the Seaview YC clubhouse on the North of the IOW is excellent with a good winelist.

Too many to mention.

Going East, Lymington and Yarmouth both good spots - Yarmouth can get expensive as you need to water taxi from berth everytime you want to go ashore unless you have dinghy.

Newton great place to overnight, especially midweek as it gets chokker at weekends.

Beaulieu lovely but expensive.

Bembridge also picturesque.

Up Solent Water, you have a variety. Can go up to Ocean Village for some close to town nightlife, but personal preference is Hamble - Mercury will always oblige.

Several places in Portsmouth, but don't really know them.

Chichester has both marinas and anchorages.

If you are feeling adventurous, and weather is good, could try some of bays round Isle of Wight, Freshwater, Whitecliffs, Alum etc

Loads more....

BUt why not start by joining the party at Studland Sunday and chatting it through with people who have been there, done it, got the tee shirt and even left their props behind too! See adhoc forum below.
Brendan - you going/coming/partying?

There's talk of a Pathfinder Cherbourg trip - if I can get time to arrange insurance, and get down one evening to strengthen the ongoing 'emergency' repairs to windscreen, I'll be off to France weather permitting.

Otherwise, see you there! (with my water pistol)

Give Paul Thompson a call.. he sent an email on the 15th about the two cross channel events. You were included on the email, I just checked (assuming the email address is correct?) If you didn't get it, I can PM you.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will be around Studland over the weekend so hopefully be able to join you for the party. (Thats if you are not in France).

There'll be plenty in Studland, so just holler when you arrive. Call 'ybw' on Ch16 and you should get a response...though not a totally kosher way of using VHF! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

There is absolutly nothing at all east of pool. First there is the wastwland of the S*le*t. Which is compleat crap and struck off our itinery for our and future life times. That leaves Brighton. Much improved by Paulines presence but otherwise has nothing in the way of recomendations. However please carry on with your quest as we are over full already to the west.
