I know the marina staff do an excellent job checking boats but with the strong winds forecast over the next few days, if anyone unable to get over to check their boat for themselves would like to PM me their berth number I will cast a quick eye over lines, fenders, etc. in the next couple of days, before Christmas and again between Christmas and New Year when I am down there.

I'm not in east cowes, but that's a mighty fine offer and proves the power of the forum. I'm in hasler and the staff there have been excellent as we did have a spot of bother, so I know first hand how much better it is to have someone look at the boat and stop one sitting at home worrying.

Kind of you to offer, we are coming over xmas eve for the whole of the festive period.
So a xmas drink would be in order ?
I saw the warning from the marina regarding the forecast high winds, pleased I didn't scrimp and put the oversize warps on the goof ship, not quite so confident about the canvas though…..

I asked my yacht haven if they'd keep an eye on my boat in the strong winds as I can't down to her for a few days; I've been down to my boat on consequetive weekends during this period of storms but I can't get down for the latest storm to hit later today. They e-mailed me the section from the contract I signed reminding me that ultimately responsibilty for my boat rests with me. Perfectly true and correct of course but hardly 'in the spirit' of good customer service. Needles to say I'm not renewing my contract with them next year.

I don't blame you, of course your boat is ultimately your responsibility but as you say, you'd think they'd help you if circumstances didn't allow you to check. you're actually taking responsibility by attempting to have them check for you so in a way, they are preventing you from carrying out your responsibilities . what yacht haven are you with?

Before & during the surge 12/13 Dec our marina chaps + many from the workshops were in attendance until 03.00z. many boats stored in a low lying field were moved to high ground, the newly raised sea wall was breached & the field flooded to some 6 foot. Marina piles were rapidly extended too, That is customer service above & beyond the contract. Barney @ East Cowes will know them all

Hmm, I expect they're covering their backs, although if that's all they said in the email it's pretty poor customer communication. I'd be surprised if they weren't still doing patrols of the pontoons checking lines etc. If they weren't doing this, then maybe time to consider not renewing the contract.

Spotty Dog Too Calm and Breakers Heaven all lines checked yesterday no problems for any one .
Merry Christmas
Tim
