Time to think about this coming season !

Probably on my tod, 27', drawing 4' 6".

Reckon I would have about 9 day's cruising after reaching Dover.

First of all, best month to go. I'm thinking late June for daylight and being less crowded.

Second, depending of course on weather, suggested places to visit with anchoring in mind.

Thanks Chaps !

Late June / Early July is a good plan. It gets apprecialbly busier from the school holidays (20 something of July onwards). Watch out for events like the Round The Island Race (19th June) and others like the powerboat racing (not sure when that is) which can make it busier.

In terms of anchoring you have Keyhaven, the Beualieu River, Newtown (preferably not at a weekend...it gets very busy). Osborne Bay, Priory Bay and even Alum Bay if its settled and from the right direction. En route down, Chichester has plenty of shelter and anchorages.

For starters, I'd refer you to The tightwad sailor, prepared, I believe by one Alahol of this parish. He mentions Marchwood, which has always made us very welcome, but misses out my club, Hardway, which is half way up Portsmouth Harbour on the left.

For a first visit, come in around half-tide or higher and, at weekends, there's nearly always someone to take a line. At low, you'll sink into deep soft mud alongside the pontoon. If Jissel's alongside, come and say hi; I've usually got a half-decent malt on board!

If you have an extra day or two, Poole and Studland are within reach, with the remarkable Handfast Point (Old Harry Rocks) marking the start of the 'Jurassic Coast'. I first sailed round there, so I'm probably biased.
