Last July I had the pleasure of a weeks sailing off the West coast of Scotland. Mooring in beautifull fishing harbours ( Tarbert on Kintyre was my favourite ) and anchoring in magical bays.
The scenery was spectacular, the fishing almost too easy and the sailing memorable!

Now my Scottish sailing buddy is to be treated to a weeks sailing starting from Woolverstone this Saturday.

I feel I have to come up with some destinations that highlights the attractions of East coast sailing. Of course for someone who spent the whole week advising me to keep an eye on the depth whenever it was less than 20metres ( I'm not joking ) I thought a visit to the Walton backwaters is a must /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can anyone help me to come up with places to visit to make his week an interesting contrast to his usual sailing.

Thanks

hee hee...

Jim and I were completely mesmerised earlier this year when sailing off the west coast with Silkie when the sounder went out of range.... it wasn't something we were used to seeing, and both found it highly entertaining..... and as for the shallow alarms in use around that part of the world.... ROFLMAO....

Deben- The Rocks & Ramsholt
Walton Backwaters
West Mersea (inc the Company shed or the Coast inn)
Heybridge Basin and the pub there
Ore & Alde - Abrams Bosom, Orford, Aldeburgh
Brightlingsea - when you need a pontoon and a curry! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you want a curry go to Brightlingsea - the Cury House there is excellent BUT no shore power and you will need a dinghy to get ashore unless you have the depth and can do a deal with the HM to lie on the new hammerhead pontoon - usually only allows 15 mins alongside.

With curry and beer inside you probably safest NOT to put on the heating anyway!

Boston, Wisbech, Kings Lynn - Hmmm..................

Wells , Morston and Blakeney all a little dry at times (about twice a day!)

My choices will be a bit restricted to start with , sailing out of the Welland it's going to take some time to get to Boston Cut before I can head anywhere , thankfully my tiny bottom means I don't need a lot underneath me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
