east coast weekend trips fin keel

Morning forumites, I am looking for suggestions for weekend trips on the East coast. Based in the River Crouch 10.5m yacht drawing 2m, so any suggestions need to take into account the need for water at all states of tide. marinas would be good but also don't mind anchorages. Let the games begin! :encouragement:

Thanks Sailorman, I would like to try Pyefleet as i have heard its lovely, where do you recommend anchoring? or are there any moorings I can use?

There certainly used to be a couple of moorings in Pyefleet, but I've not been there for a few years. If no vacant moorings, there's plenty of anchoring space - just look at the chart.

If you can get away late Friday afternoon, St Katherine's is doable in a weekend from the Crouch. Two tides to get up there, with a stopover at Queenborough and one tide to get home. You clearly have to pick a weekend when the tide serves, ebb down to the Whitaker, flood up to Queenborough then next flood up to the tower. Start the return trip on the last of the flood.

You won't get long in London for sightseeing, but the trip up and down the river is interesting.

You could easily add Ramsgate, or if you get the tides right the Calais is possible on a double tide each way.

The Medway has plenty of anchorages, moorings and two marinas, plus Queenborough. For a long weekend I would recommend Chatham Maritime Marina as there is so much to do locally from shopping, cinema and the Historic Dockyard.

Or try Limehouse - a little closer to the estuary and far cheaper than the big bucks at St Kats.
Last time we did a Thames trip(previous slower boat) we did Orwell to Burnham then Burnham to Gallions Point (east of City Airport - the old Royal Abert Dock I believe) then St Kats. Not sure if Gallions Point is better now as it had only just opened when we were there. I guess there are DLR trains nearby. Probably cheaper again than St Kats and Limehouse.

I'd head up the cooast a little and try the Deben (mooring at Ramsholt or anchor at the Rocks) or the Ore (our favourite) - anchor at Cuckold's point or pick up a mooring at Orford or Aldeburgh. Both entrances easily done (we draw 2m and have been into both this year) although they need planning and the right tide...
