Ok, here's another of my occasional trawls for a boat's history.

Does anyone familiar with the East coast estuaries have any memory of an old gaff yawl (occasionally just a cutter) called Cleone?

Spent all of her life in the Burnham on Crouch, Wrabness, and possibly Manningtree areas. Are there any dim memories of her there, and would you like to share them with me and the rest of the forum, please?

You might like to try posting this again in the East Coast forum ( down near the for sale forum ) although I think most of the residents ( or is it relics?) there , also visit here

I believe this is the boat I saw in a front garden in Beccles/Bungay in about 1988 ish. I remember distinctly the owner using lots of resorcinol glue on the bits he was fitting. She was being rebuilt. At that stage the decks were not on but the planking was complete. The owner had been restoring her for about 10 years. My intrest was that she was similar to a smack yacht 'Merlin' I was restoring at the same time of a similar size. She attended the Clssic Boat Festival in 1998. I may have one or two pictures of her. I think the owner then thought she was an old broads boat. First appears in Lloyds in 1924.

I'm quite up on her recent history as I bought her off the chap who rebuilt her. I suppose I'm the "new" (well can I call myself new after 18 months and a lot of tlc of my own? I feel more like a curator! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) owner.

I'm looking for her earlier history in the 60 and possibly earlier. I'll try posting on the east coast forum and see whet turns up.
