Oi you 'orrible lot of degenerate scurvy ridden renegades

After much discussion in the depths of the bilge, we would like to propose a gathering of the unruly rabble known as The East Coast Pirates on Saturday the 13th August at the usual secret rendezvous point. ( Ask if you don't know where that is ;) )

HW is somewhere around 1330, so time for some treasure hunting and then setting fire to some meat ( and non meat ) products around 1800.

Big pirates welcome as well as little ones, for much merriment and succor.

Hi David,

Is the 13th Aug a firm date❓

PMd you.

Best wishes,

N

Selecting a date to accommodate all has always been a problem. clearly an early decision on the date will make planning easier.

As a resident in The Backwaters, we do not have far to commute so we can be available on most weekends.

So far as Stone Point is concerned, the height of the tide is not significant but becomes progressively more so for those who want to use this weekend to explore the higher reaches of The Backwaters.

For those not conversant with Stone Point the current can be fierce at certain states of the tide so for those wanting a quiet night, there are plenty of unoccupied buoys in the Walton Channel. Access to the Backwaters is well buoyed and an ‘UNOFFICIAL’ chartlet is available

For those coming from further afield, high water at Walton is:- Sat 06 Aug 18:18/3.55m (Sunrise 05:23, Sunset 20:38), Sat 13 Aug 13:31/4.09m, Sat 20 Aug 18:33/3.38, Sat 27 Aug 12:51/3.87m (Sunrise 05:57, Sunset 19:55).

Potentially just a guest at this gathering, if anybody wants any more details on The Backwaters et al, please ask on here or PM me.

ps Edited to add greater detail and amend typo ‘OFFICIAL’ to ‘UNOFFICIAL’‼️

Thanks Chip

For most fun factor, we were suggesting the 27th as the alternative as it gives people time to get anchored / moored up and on the beach by early afternoon.

Alternatively, the 6th means that most people will be there by 1700 ish, BBQ on the beach and the normal treasure hunt etc.

The 13th was great for us, but I've had to shift holiday etc around so it's now more difficult. However Pirates is bigger than just us so if someone else wants to take the mantle and organise it on the 13th that's fine by me.

Just to see the interest in the event please vote in the poll below
As all dates are dates are OK by us, we haven’t voted a preference but if available, will support which ever date is selected. Whatever, somebody will have to organise the event on any alternative date.

Unless the Mods can combine this poll with the main thread, to reduce any confusion, I will post any further points I may have in the main thread. East Coast Pirates - Saturday 13th August 2022.

Just an update.

After 20 great years away we are now out of Portugal and back in Walton permanently so we will make the Pirates, whatever the date.

On a buoy in the Walton Channel, rather than Tay (the big boat), we will bring Poppy (tender to Tay) so depending on the state of the tide, we will be available to offer lifts up to the Walton Quay (for replenishment) as required.

If weekend 12-14 August is the firm date, access to Walton will be:- 12 Aug (HW12:43/3.97) 1000 to1530, 13 Aug (HW 1331/4.09m) 1045 to 1600, 14 Aug 14 Aug (1415/4.17m Spring Tide) 1115 to 1645.

As could be expected, we are more adventurous in Foundry Reach on a making tide. ?

Titchmarsh will be available at all states of the tide but it is over a mile walk from the marina to the shops in Walton.

If anybody wants to include a night (or more) in the Walton Yacht Haven (the Pond), get in touch and we we will liaise on access on your behalf.

12 to 14 would work for us - Will have the Daughter, Granddaughter & Grandson on board for the week prior so this would make a good end to their holiday.
Most likely look for a mooring in the Walton Channel.

My only concern with the Middle of August, the evenings will be drawing in so suggest an earlier date may be a good idea❓

Beginning of the school holidays before folk are heading off on their summer adventures❓
