It's the East Coast Piers Race this weekend - the annual (now 23 years and counting) long distance catamaran race, in aid of Cirdan Sailing Trust
The race starts from Marconi SC on the Blackwater near Osea at 0900 and competitors pass through gates at Weymarks, Colne Bar, and Clacton before turning at Walton Pier and heading back into the river. A shorter race for slower boats turns at Colne Bar.
Cruisers from Marconi flying orange flags mark the route and provide safety support, along with a fleet of RIBs - all crewed by volunteers. On site, the bar will be open all weekend!
Watch out for the racers if you're in the River or the Wallet on Sunday and give them a wave.
