The ECF Laying down supper has now established itself as one of the main ECF event of the year. In previous years, we have been to West Mersea and Bradwell, and it has been a great fun evening, with much merry making. Everyone is very welcome, established participants and partners, kids, newer forumites and friends, and lurkers alike. Its a great chance to socialise, swap a few sea tales, and enjoy yourself.

We've made progress on this years event, so I now need to get a few details confirmed/expressions of interest from you good folks...

The proposed venue is Shotley Point Marina, where we have been offered their private function room, with its own bar and dance area should we want it.

Date is 8th November.

Cost is yet to be finalised, but currently looks like around £17 per head for food and the room. There will be a choice of meal options, so that we can provide a bit of flexibility.

If we decide that we also want a disco/ small band etc, then we would obviously need to share the costs between us, which will therefore depend upon how many want to attend.

Finally, I have spoken to the marina, and for those that wish to come by boat, then they are happy to offer a 'rally rate' for overnight moorings, of £1.85 per metre.

So.... I need to know numbers.... could you please post if you would like to attend, with numbers of crew, and whether you are planning on coming by boat or by road.

Can you also let me know if you think its worthwhile paying a little extra for a disco/band?

I propose that once we have numbers, then i'll confirm the booking, sort out the final menu and costs and request a small deposit from everyone.... nothing too onerous, just perhaps a few quid a head.... I'll try my hardest to keep the costs down as low as possible, appreciating times are a little tougher than in previous years.

Neil,
The FCs are in.

I presume the £17 is for 3 courses?

The marina rate is pretty good, so we will have a couple of nights, arrive Friday night, leave Sunday.

How about that guy Justin who entertained us so royally in the Bristol Arms? He runs a bit of disco, cum comedian, cum live music for £175 quid all in for the night? I ahve his number if you wish.

Thanks for making the effort....

Do you realise that this means it's the anniversary of my introduction to saily boats, it's two years since Mr & Mrs Circle invited us to go sailing with them to the West Mersea meeting /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Personally I would go with the idea of some entertainment too, but will have to see how things go first

Thats a yes from me as well.....

As I am now in Ipswich I shall most likely attend by boat.......

And am optimistic of crew attending.....otherwise berths available...

Jim/Neil
Justin who we saw at Bristol Arms would be good and would not be that loud to offend those wanting to chat.....I may not need to wear the pulling shirt....

Goodie, not too far to go. Will no doubt make the epic voyage from syh to Shotley rather than drive round. Can't be specific yet about numbers. I will start working on finding a crew for the weekend.

Find someone who will ceroc with me and I'll vote for the disco/live band/dance floor!! Otherwise, if it adds to the cost and makes it impossible to hear conversations, it might be a bit pointless.

James still asleep upstairs but the diary is free so we will be there. I expect by car rather than boat.

I'd vote for nothing too discoey/loud as I'm a bit deaf and it rather kills conversation for me. The rest of you may consider that an advantage, however /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We will not be able to make it this year. Muckypup Jr. No. 2 will hopefully be born by then but only by a week or two. SWMBO has already said she doesn't fancy the journey.

Sixpence and 6dSkipper confirming attendance, arriving afloat, would also vote for entertainment but suggest if we do go that route maybe it would be best to split the cost between adults only as I think any kids would probably prefer a different kind of entertainment.

Excuse me .... ever so politely .... is this event going ahead, and if so could we have an update, roll call, whatever, as I would like to make space for it in my crowded social diary ...
