East Coast Cruiser Racing Receives High Praise.
75 delegates from 21 Yacht Racing Clubs came together on Sunday at the Blackwater Sailing Club in Essex for a full day seminar.
The focus of the day was, 'Increasing Participation', and given the number of people representing clubs and regional organisations from Dover to Lowestoft, 2013 is set to be a very significant year for East Coast racing in general.
Bas Edmonds, Technical Manager from the Royal Yachting Association said 'I don’t think I have ever attended a meeting with such a group of dedicated volunteers all working together to improve sailing for their members',
The new RYA handicapping scheme that allows casual racers to compete / and win against the hotshots and high spenders, was well received and with dual scoring that allows the IRC racers to challenge themselves using the rating system means that the shakeup that's been long overdue, should see greater opportunity for more flexible, fun racing for all.
If you'd like to get involved in yacht racing for the fist time, or would like to learn more about the proposed changes so that you might consider returning to the sport after a period of long absence, then please contact me, Peter Ward at eaora1949@gmail.com and I'll be only too pleased to help.
