Well so far this season's sailing is going well only one little argument with SWMBO and that was before we had left the pontoon to row out to the boat.

SWMBO is getting itchy water wings/feet/legs (delete as applicable) and is tired of seeing the same old scenery and wanting to travel further.

We have a week off early July and the 3rd week in August. In July we are planning on visiting Bradwell for a couple of nights as the nice gentlemen in the tower said that access was possible up to an hour and half either side of low tide and we plan to come down on one tide and stay the night then have a little play around the mouth of the Blackwater and maybe out to the wallet spitway to experience some more open water sailing, then back to bradwell for the night before returning to the basin.

We are thinking of going a little further in August possibly upto shotley as the pub there caters for coeliacs.

We currently have Imray Y17 and 2000.6 for on the boat. What is the esteemed panels suggestion/recommendation for covering the east coast a little further.

Go for the 2000 small chart folio and supplement this with C1 or pick up Y16 and then pick up the 2000 charts for the relevant rivers we plan on visiting.

Or something totally different. Thank you in advance.

Gary.

Bradwell - there is a tidal height guage on the North Cardinal post at the entrance to the creek (leave to stbd). The water in the creek between the 2nd and 3rd cans is 3 feet shallower than shown by the guage. If you can get through the first bit then there is plenty of water all the way to the marina. Go down to the small green conical buoy and follow the trot of moorings down to the orange marina buoy which should be left to port).

Best food and beer is in the Green Man pub.

You might like to check with the Bristol Arms at Shotley that gluten free is still available. When I was there last month I overheard the chef saying that he was in the process of handing over to a new chef and that he was moving the Shipwreck (the restaurant in the marina).

Thanks guys.

MS, does that depth apply with the cans in their indicated position on the Marina plan, as the gent said that they can sometimes swing out toward the river in the right conditions.

Thanks also for the heads up about the Bristol Arms will look into that nearer the time.

Just keep half way between the cans and the withies. The orange cans are really red ones in disguise. Yes they are on fairly long tethers so at lowish water will be tide rode so don't get too near on a falling tide.

What do you draw? I came out of Bradwell recently a couple of days after springs at about an hour after low water. I had about a metre under me most of the way, but I touched bottom at one point - I draw 0.8 metres.

A nice marina, although the new metal pontoons are a bit noisy.

If you definitely decide to go, post again, and I'll give you some tips.
