Has anyone got any recommendations for charter co. on the east coast? We're looking for a yacht 8 to 10 meters and would like to explore the rivers and estuaries, Deben etc.
Thanks in advance to all who answer.

Britannia Sailing at Shotley.

I had already found their website but I find them overpriced. Did'nt really find another charter co. with a suitable yacht. Thanks for the suggestion, although I thought there would be more response.

East Coast charter

After several charters exploring from Aldeburgh to the Deben the holiday on a Moody fin-keeler was fraught but those on a catamaran were a delight. Lesson learned!

Do you mind wooden boats?

Hi, you could try Classic Sailing Boat club who run out of Suffolk Yacht Harbour at Levington. You have to join up but it is quite reasonable but they are classic wooden boats not charter boat standard by any means.

A bit delayed, but here's my two -pennyworth.

We too are looking for an East Coast charter company. I've been recommended Anglia Sea Adventures although they require a minimum of coastal skipper to rent a boat. Also East Anglian Sailing School although i have no personal knowledge of them.
Mistral Yachts apparantly charters bareboat out of Burnham so it might be worth giving them a go too....we have just been lazy in the past couple of years and chartered out of Hamble!

We had an awful experience with that popular charter/sail school company mentioned earlier.....we did our comp crew with them and thought them to be a great organisation. However, we chartered bareboat with a couple of friends for a weekend.....the yacht we originally booked for was ''out of action'' and we were given a yacht with a dodgy genoa furler. We were told to keep it tight when tacking!!!
On returning the yacht, we were charged our entire deposit on the basis that the furling drum had been bent and that the entire unit needed replacing.

We were all dayskippers and have chartered extensively both before and since with no problems. We feel very strongly that we were given a sub-standard yacht and paid a high price (£600) for trusting the company owner who had previously been so pally.

We maybe should have tried to claim this back, but we took no before and after pictures although my husband did post on here about this (see "Have we been conned?") and included pictures sent by the sailing school/charter company and lots of peeps on here thought it sounded suspicious.

We feel that the popular Shotley-based "Sailing School who also charter" would have most definitely got a lot more money out of us through chartering as we love this area to bits and have since decided that when we buy our own yacht next year (hopefully) we will keep it in this area. But unfortunately our view of that particular company is forever tainted and we would rather charter anywhere but with them.
