East Anglia One - Offshore Windfarm

Um look very carefully as it may not be the Deben or Bawdsey that have to worry.. We have discussed this before on the forum, but following the public meetings, where I asked directly if there was any chance that the cables would be landed at Felixstowe Ferry (The easiest and most direct route) The representative refused point blank to comment. I can't find the other thread but they are also keeping Felixstowe ferry as an option for sure. The reason they are not using the Orwell (Which was the second choice) Is purely because of the punative cost the Port of Felixstowe would charge them for disruption.

There are some very important and unanswered questions and I wrote to SPR and got a letter in return asking to get a representative body (Such as the RYA to take this matter up) I emailed them also with the details and they have not replied!

Importantly the public consultation finishes tomorrow!

Either way. Many questions remain unanswered. As for the possibility of 'burrowing' the answer is no they don't they use a trencher and the people of Felixstowe Ferry should be just as worried as those on the Bawdsey side of the river

I suppose we can at least be thankful that the cables will be underground rather than pylons.

Just on a related matter, a friend tells me that there were six Windcats in Fox's the other week.

It would appear that they hope to invest in a new dock and hoist roughly where Mr Matthews lands his helicopter.

According to the Spring edition of the excellent River Deben Association newsletter, the power from East Anglia One is due to come ashore at Bawdsey between Bawdsey Manor and East Lane.
The cabling will be underground, under Ramsholt Marshes to Green Point where it will cross the river to somewhere around Falkenham Creek and, having passed under Martlesham Creek and the railway, it will then follow a cross country route north of Ipswich to connect with the national grid at Bramford.
When we were walking the west bank of the Deben a few weeks ago, there were planning notices posted near Falkenham Creek and also in Hemley. The seawall and dyke sides between Waldringfield and Felixstowe Ferry have all been cleared of scrub and cut back, presumably to enable work to commence on the underground cabling.
There is more info and maps on www.eastangliawind.com, also in local libraries, but the consultation ends today, March 30.

Think you have missed the completely genuine concerns raised in the thread. Read the consultation properly and you will understand that there are many anomolies. Although your publication may be excellent, it has just recreated the praisee of one part of the phase 2 consultation, and although I have no doubt that given the depth of detail this is the route that will be taken. However, Questions remain and are unanswered and that is what is not answered in the public information block.

Do you know how the cables will be crossing the river by the way? The usual method is to cover them in a concrete 'bund'

Do you know why surveys have been carried out, since the proposal was published in the Phase 2 consultation, on behalf of their land purchase company at Felixstowe Ferry? - That's one we would like answers to

Do you know why several 'scrub clearances' have also taken place the other side of the river in recent weeks? - Neither do we

The proposed area of Zone 5 is a very busy deep sea transit area - Where will the shipping go once construction begins?

What we do know, from someone who worked on the planning of the project that necessary 'alternatived' have been considered and as yet a cost evaluation of the cable landing at Bawdsey has yet to be fully accepted as this represents a very expensive route.

By the way, underground cabling// will initially be trenched with inspection manhole built at regular intervals, with earth/ necessary backfill reinstated over the top. After about a year you wont know it's there - unless it crosses your prize lawn!

I am not happy about the cabling project either. And the Deben Association newsletter is not my publication, I am not even a member. Someone lent me a copy and I thought it might be useful to pass on the info therein.
Didn't mean to upset you.

Bit puzelled as to the concern re this work after all its going to be underground and as Littlebirchwoo says after a year you won't even know its there. Will be a bit of inconvience as its being laid but after that cannot see the problem.

Now as for the turbines thats a different matter as I really do not like these at all.
