That does look rather wicked for sure.
I wonder if the jetski is bullet (or harpoon perhaps?) proof as well as the big boat?
Looks like it might get a wee bit warm inside in the tropics with all that black...... ooops, sorry, just remembered, that must be intentional, green heating for when they are in polar latitudes chasing whalers.

lol sea shepherd, the trident and the crook more like! Mr Watson you have just been conned big time! this boat is about as environmentally friendly as teaching a whale to smoke! Check the real figures before you check the record books yes it went round fast (ish) but did it do it as green as it could have? NO WHERE NEAR!

I bet that would be a nightmare to take into the southern ocean swells. Good for nothing but publicity, a whaler wouldn't even take a dent from that.

Another thread on here recently mentioned about how the whole hull had been clad in a tonne(?) or so of kevlar to make it bullet proof - me thinks that they are worried about the Japanese harpooning them instead of the whale......... :D
I can see that the whaling ship might be very tempted to test out the effectiveness of this armour plating.........

I don't doubt that the Jap whalers would love to take a shot at them, after all with a history like they have, what's a bit more slaughter in the name of the science, or whatever excuse they use.

hahahaha the south park thing is great. i cant see the jet ski lasting long when they get into the southern ocean, hope its tied on well. The boat will do 40 kn if it has a very specific prop and gear box but this reduces the range of the boat. with the original race set up she can do 30 kn with a range of about 2500-3000 Miles. if she slows to 10 kn or even 6 the range is increased considerably by as much as 15,000 miles. The kevlar is there to protect against ice pack not the Japanese, i think. the main danger comes from ice striking the helm when she starts to pierce the waves, as you might end up with an ice berg on your lap.

I'd also quite like to know exactly how it "submarines" up to 25 feet deep as reported. Can't imagine the air intakes enjoying that too much.

A ton of kevlar might prevent superficial ice damage, but bullet proof?

I don't believe a single thing they've announced about that boat. They've been sold an absolute lemon and the chaps who sold it are probably laughing, chinking champaign glasses and planning a holiday in Barbados.

I love the scaffold plank though. $1.5 million, sorry sir, the gangplank is extra.

out of interest why do you think it's a lemon? I would guess the engines are a little tired by now ... could just be a publicity toy.

They want to take it down to the antarctic to get in the way of whalers. I don't think that boat was built with the intention of ever seeing the southern ocean, nor really built to be used again after it's record attempt.

They'll probably use it once, scare themselves sh*tless and then either use it for publicity, or not at all.
