There seems to have been a 'quake yesterday Force 5 somewhere between Poros and Methana. No damage or casualties reported. Did anyone witness it? (any forumite that is)

Didnt feel the slightest of a tremble. We get them all the time out here, the locals do not bat an eyelid unless the tables in the tavernas move about!
We live in a valley that runs from one coast straight accross to the other coast, you can hear an earthquake arriving, it is loud and sounds like an express train rushing past, the noise is worse than the quake itself (normally) When we get a slow quiet one, the glasses in the cupboards start to rattle and you can feel the ground slowly move. Bit worrying at first but got quite used to them now.

I had never felt one until a few years ago anchored off Palairos there was quite a large earthhquake on Levkas. Agree the noise was quite alarming, I though we were about to be run down by a large fishing boat! It sounded like a huge diesel engine throbbing. I looked out onto a flat calm bay although dust was rising from the coast road and the locals were shouting "basta".
Since Palairos is a shallow bay I did wonder about the possibility of a wave but reasoned we were surrounded by islands.
There were aftershocks enough to shake balconies for several days.

I was leaning off the edge of the bathing platform cleaning the prop when we had a quake, I did not feel it, but it had an effect in the harbour, it was like a washing up bowl full of water had been banged from the sides. It only lasted a second or two, but it caused tiny ripples. It was the first time I had ever noticed it do that.

If the earthquake was over 4 and you were sat watching the world go by, then yes you would feel it. It would not wake you up though. We certainly feel them from the Athens area. We had a 5.1 on Kefalonia last year (just off Lixouri very deep down) that was felt on Italy. Its rather strange sometimes, after the 5,1 we had 18 aftershocks in 24 hours, if you were walking you felt nothing, if you were seated on a rigid wooden chair you felt them all.
I used to have a seismic data site on my favorites, I seem to have deleted it,but it shows in detail the area (Greece) the numbers and strengths of earthquakes. I stopped looking, just made sure my houses were insured /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
