A light hearted post (after psychotic fisher folk off Spain) any stories of how one may earn a buck or two.My partner is a good hairdresser (M/F) I guess this skill might bring in a bob or two. Also skills at the sewing machine...Me I can hold down a tune and have played Guitar in few bars Mostly that brings in Beers Rarely cash ..so let us, on the forum know your experiences of getting a few bob Funnier the better...Cheer up its summer after all your a Sailboat Skipper some people can only dream of it...............

I painted water-colours which sold at 1,ooo pesatas ago.....unfortunatly discovered several years later that many of my friends had bought them, all they had on the wall was my signiture as the paint had faded away!

that is a standard problem with watercolours. these days you can get a UV protected glass which should erradicate that problem.

Bit late now! I think they must have been chinese, have since used better materials and no problemo, but the bottom has fallen out the market as you can get Mattise for 3 eurosin the super' !!

I think it is disgraceful that you have been buying different nationality friends just because they bought your watercolours! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The factthat they are still my friends ,even tho the paint faded away says alot for their friendship,if they bought them hoping to cash in on an art investment situation ,they gave no sign of being distraut, althoug I belive the framewas worth more than the painting!!!!!!

We were anchored in a bay in BVI's when a South African cruising catamaran came in. After sorting the boat they launched the dinghy and a young lady, about 12 years old, rowed over and offered us chocolate chip cookies she had baked and was selling to supplement her own cruising fund. I always thought that was tremendously enterprising for one so young.
The best little earner I found was doing charter check-outs for US charter companies. They would pay a flat $50 for me to check the charterers for basic seamanship skills before letting them take the boat. This took anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. Good money back in 1989! I remember checking out one couple from Kansas where they sailed on a lake - their boating skills were excellent and I was about to sign them off when one of them said "what do all those red and green markers mean?" Whoops! A quick course in basic navigation followed - and they had a safe and happy holiday.

I work as a cook at the bar at the marina. I also sew and make curtains and do upholstery work for some of the boaters. One of the guys that I work with does a lot of refinishing on wood and fiberglass.

I came out of the Gironde with just 46 francs left to get me home to UK, after 2.5 yeras away. Massages on a naturists beach @ 250 francs a time restored enough to buy fuel and food to get me home in 4 days. Pretty revolting job however glamorous it sounds though. I enter this as light relief.
