The boat show website is now showing a list of exhibitors at the new Earls court boat show in December.
It’s a little hard to work out what brands will be on display as the list often shows the UK importers name rather than the brand they sell but this is what I could work out:

Catalina Yachts, Comet Yachts, Delphia Yachts (with 3 boats in the poole) Dolphin/Tango yachts, Hanse Yachts, Jenneau, J-Boats (with 5 boats in the pool), Nautina Yachts, Southerly Yachts (1st look at the new 32 maybe?) Select Group (Hunter/Crabber etc), also Global Yachts (who do 3+ brands so don't know which will be there)

So, a lot more information now and it's looking like an interesting show to visit.
I have always prefered the Earls Court venue any way and really disliked the 'shed in a wasteland' that the london show moved to a few years ago....

I am going to Earls Court as I used to enjoy the old show and having been once to the "new" docklands venue I would never go there again. Not interested in the new boats at all but will no doubt find something that I need to buy!

I asked many exhibitors at Southampton if they would be at Earls Court, some of who were sitting on the fencde but the majority saying absolutely not. They can not justify having two london shows so close to each other.

Earls Court is a better venue and much more accesable. I would think that it would be a better place for customers.

I was suprised that the exhibitors were not excited about it.

Who for?

interesting discussion; I think the new show will probably be a great day out and may be good for chandlers, corporate day organisers and sailing schools/holiday companies.

I don't think many new boats will be sold. it may then mean that excel becomes much more targeted as people will go there to buy a big motorboats etc.

I think that the new show is focussing on giving boat owners a good time - its certainly marketed in that way. the london boatshow has always been focussed on the retailers so its a clever turn around.

lets see what happens...

Hats of to James and the rest of the team for this brave move, I have sat in countless meetings where companies have talked about the show and have mostly said they want to wait and see who else arrives before they exhibit. I also remember these same people complaining about when the show moved away from earls court.
In this industry we need to support people that try bring about change and not have a wait and see attitude. I personally think it will evolve after the first year a little and am not really bothered that it wont have many new boats as I don't by a new one each year. (i would not be able to cope with the stress of that :-))

I always liked Earls court show, (maybe a luddite) went to the excel one once, not been back and not going again.

That seems like a boatshow worth going to!

I very much doubt that any company can afford to do both the Earls Court and Excel shows, it's just too expensive.
A chum of mine works for one of the companies now going to Earls court and they did consider both shows, what finally decided them was the cost & rather inflexable attitude by National boat shows - yes they were offered space at Excel but due to the layout there, the inside sailboat spaces are 19M deep which leaves a hell of a lot of wasted (and expensive @ £130 per sq m)space.
NBS were not willing to help smaller companies to exibit by drawing smaller stands which was certainly possible after Peters Opal folded and left a big space vacant. I guess they don't care as long as the space is taken so there's little incentive to help the smaller companies, even if they are full BMF members.
NBS response was to offer crappy spaces on the dock....out side in the beginning of January has got to be a joke!!
Cost wise, Excel is much more expensive as well - I've heard that for much the same cost for having a 10m boat out side nudging the iceflows in the dock @ Excel, ECBS has offered TWO boat spaces in the central pool at Earls Court, inside in the dry and warm....absolutely no contest in my opinion!!
I think the two shows will evolve over the coming years - Excel will pander more to the big motorboat brigade etc and the Earls Court show becoming more of a forum for 'real' boating.

With luck, the earls court show will cater for more classic boats and gear, or is that just too wishful thinking?
Would be a good idea, with maybe a giant indoor boat jumble in one of the halls, for the last weekend, as not all the halls will be full or used?
Just an idea or two.

tee hee

This is a joke yes?

Change; Do you mean like moving from a sweaty, smelly, hard to get to old dump in the centre of London to a modern, clean, single level, easy to get to, well organised show?

I have never read so much twaddle as that written about the boo hoo it's not earls court whiny brigade. Wah wah, in my day it was earls court, how dare they move it.. Are these the same people who stop radio 4 coming out of the dark ages, Tony Hancock is dead people, modern comedy on the radio can be just as funny, Earls Court is a disgrace to the eye and nose!

Get over it, I hope the Earls Court boat jumble falls on it's face, it is a truly ridiculous idea!

Off for a rest now.

Not sure what the above does actually say but I think I agree!

I suspect that like-minded people will attend the same show and I hope that a good time is had by all.

am I just getting old or has the idea of both Boat Shows changed? Ten years ago we all went to get Boat Show deals. Now you can beat all the prices at the show on the internet - at least for things like radios etc, clothes and chandlery. True I did get some ropes cheap last time, but unless you're looking for a large purchase - an engine or a new boat - much of the bargain hunting has disappeared.
