Well nearly!
Because of the swift and kind actions of a certain Mr Banks, my stay at an average hotel in a less than average location near EC was improved immeasurably. I was let in on an exhibitors pass for sneak previews and photos. I only had a disposable camera at hand (hey, I'm meant to be doing bleedin' telecoms don't forget) but having the place to myself (almost) was just awesome!
Now then...I may well scan some good pics in if I can but just for starters I went on the Westline 34. I have to point out that Jez is very good in being unbiased on this forum, but as an outsider, I can say what I like. The W34 is brilliant. Westline have set Windy as their benchmark for quality and performance and whilst my aging tub compares nowt to the W34, I can say that the W34 is similar to the Windy 34 Khamsin that I have been aboard and is owned by a friend of mine.
I have thought about this for ages in the light of "red diesel" and other considerations and for me, two types of boats will come to the fore following next November's loss of derogation.
One is the likes of the Haines 34 featured in this months MBM and the other is the likes of the Westline W34.
Why? The W34 has an astonishing build quality that frankly embarrasses my old Windy (apart from maybe the hull which is still effin' excellent) and its a build quality that sees this boat lasting the 20 or more years, that CI has - more maybe!
The engine options give either economy with still reasonable performance (35kts) or performance - more performance up to 45kts with twin engines. The boat combines performance with economy and supreme handling (OK, I have assessed the hull shape for that comment) and the interior is something that any owner could be proud of and proud to show off of to anyone.
I wish Jez good luck with his stand and if anyone from this forum is attending the show, the Westline stand is a must.
But hey! Take your shoes off!
This is a genuine comment, not a cheap plug. Coz in 12 months we will all se polorisation into semi-d or performance but in a more compact manner (all IMHO, of course).
