Following received from the EA yesterday:
This email is to let you know about some of the repairs and improvements we'll be carrying out to our River Thames navigation structures in the coming months.
Our £3.8 million upgrade programme includes investment in new lock gates, improved access for non-powered boats and better mooring facilities. The documents attached to this e-mail explain where and when these works will be taking place.
The largest projects are at Hurley and Sandford, where locks will receive improvements totalling £1.55 million. Work will be carried out to replace lock gates and refurbish lock chambers. In total, fifteen locks will be affected by temporary closures, with work scheduled to take place during various periods between October 2010 and March 2011.
Other works include:
* Upgrading the short-stay moorings at Weybridge, opposite Shepperton Lock. The work will improve safety and provide better access for disabled people and should be completed in time for the August Bank holiday weekend.
* Upgrading the short-stay moorings at Surley Hall Point, upstream of Boveney Lock, Dorney.
* Replacing the access bridge at Sandford Lock.
* Building new toilet facilities at Sunbury, Chertsey, Shiplake and Hurley locks.
* Upgrading the boat rollers at Sunbury Lock.
We hope boaters and other visitors will enjoy the improvements next boating season and for many years to come. Following six years of hard work and continued investment the navigation infrastructure along the River Thames is in good shape.
To help you plan your journey on the river while the works are underway, we have produced a handy map (attached), detailing the work taking place and how long locks will be closed. We'll update the map regularly during the winter and you can download the latest version from www.visitthames.co.uk/winterworks <http://www.visitthames.co.uk/winterworks>
