Following received from the EA yesterday:
This email is to let you know about some of the repairs and improvements we'll be carrying out to our River Thames navigation structures in the coming months.

Our £3.8 million upgrade programme includes investment in new lock gates, improved access for non-powered boats and better mooring facilities. The documents attached to this e-mail explain where and when these works will be taking place.

The largest projects are at Hurley and Sandford, where locks will receive improvements totalling £1.55 million. Work will be carried out to replace lock gates and refurbish lock chambers. In total, fifteen locks will be affected by temporary closures, with work scheduled to take place during various periods between October 2010 and March 2011.

Other works include:

* Upgrading the short-stay moorings at Weybridge, opposite Shepperton Lock. The work will improve safety and provide better access for disabled people and should be completed in time for the August Bank holiday weekend.
* Upgrading the short-stay moorings at Surley Hall Point, upstream of Boveney Lock, Dorney.
* Replacing the access bridge at Sandford Lock.
* Building new toilet facilities at Sunbury, Chertsey, Shiplake and Hurley locks.
* Upgrading the boat rollers at Sunbury Lock.

We hope boaters and other visitors will enjoy the improvements next boating season and for many years to come. Following six years of hard work and continued investment the navigation infrastructure along the River Thames is in good shape.

To help you plan your journey on the river while the works are underway, we have produced a handy map (attached), detailing the work taking place and how long locks will be closed. We'll update the map regularly during the winter and you can download the latest version from www.visitthames.co.uk/winterworks <http://www.visitthames.co.uk/winterworks>

yeah I noticed thar too!!
Guess I will have the old girl hauled our for the winter after all...

For the third year running I shall be "reach locked" - unable to go up or down.
What a pain.

Never mind think of all the improvements. Prehaps "we" should consider ourselves lucky; they may be the last for a very long time.

Indeed there has been no ruibbish facility at Sunbury for some time now. And Weybridge will be done as the holiday season starts to wind down. Don't any of these folk look at a calendar and think "ah, let's not disrupt the boating bit". Or maybe they do:-)

Did you get the apologising e mail that the recipients were all "C" and not "BCC" so a lot of people have a lot of other people's interested in the Thames e mail addresses.

I was one (perhaps there were others?) who complained about the way the email was sent out as soon as I received it. It's just an invitation to spammers...

I can't believe

that it was a full list; didn't seem to be a lot of names on it.

Sad that a poor office bod has got it in the neck; I'm sure EA take a dim view of such a mistake, and it's so easy to do.

The downside is that - if it taken very seriously - the facility could be withdrawn, to the detriment of the interested boating community.
EA has made a great effort to communicate electronically; makes one think they care about their users   so I hope they will continue without interruption.

After all the spammer (if any), will be one of the addressees, and being trustworthy (!), the risk is low....

I got one too.

It was made worse by a second email saying sorry and drawing my attention to the fact!!! :D
