Wouldnt it be a good idea to update the site at 8 am every morning ?

River conditions

I think it's great that we have the site available but the river conditions at 2 30 pm on Friday afternoon really dont help me decide if i am going to the boat today or not .

How do you know it's not automated - sometimes I get "silly" messages which are "corrected" within the hour.
I can't believe that they have a person doing the emails manually?

It's not automated , its updated after levels morning and afternoon if it needs to be , unless a board change happens out of hours . The duty officer updates it from their computer.

When we have a board change we phone it through to the office , say from red to yellow , it should be updated soon after. There isn't someone waiting in front of a keyboard , fingers poised to start typing the moment a call comes through.

Updating it at 8 am would mean phoning the lock keepers at 7am to get the info. They need to sleep too /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We're trying our best .

That seems a long winded way to do it and expensive with all the phone calls . Why not give the lock keepers the password to the site and let them update thier own locks when there is a change .
Or would that involve a days IT training and a free lap top for every one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's not as if lock keepers aren't phoning each other anyway, they may as well pass on useful information.
Do all locks have internet access anyway? I though it was only recently that they got fax machines.

I'm sure the EA would get a great deal on Blackberrys

Personally I would rather they did not spend any more money on gadgets and PR guff, think they do enough of that already..

Thames Concervancy never had mobiles or Computers or PR staff, but river flooded a bl00dy site less than it does now.

Anyone read this months MBM Riverbank section? Sounds like "Save Our Service" work is not over yet...
