Received confirmation of outcome of EA charges consultations late yesterday. Much to digest but Thames increase for powered craft registration 2018 will be 5.7% as expected.
Given that registration charges have not been increased since 2014 its actually doing little more than playing catch up with inflation. That's quite a price hike!
My wages haven't caught up with inflation and nobody's saving have,
I shall acknowledge the price hike by asking the barman at The Anglers for a pint of fresh air. I feel we should all get use to paying for something and getting nothing in return.:nonchalance:
Although you are technically correct, the reality is that we pay the registration fee in return for being able to enjoy boating on the river and with at least some expectations of a level of service and maintenance, perhaps largely based on custom and practice over many years.Does not the river licence merely permit the vessel to use the waterway? There is nothing else offered for the fee best I know.

so as expected a totally pointless exercise
That sentence could be used to sum up pretty much everything that goes on at the EA offices. The river staff are great but the office staff feel like largely a waste of our money.
On that point I have to agree. There are too many managers coasting along without real purpose and noticeable achievement.
