EA Navigation charges to rise by 6.4%

sales pitch -

You can??

Excellent.....thanks for that: this year will be my first time so wasnt aware of that. Cheers

I have always bee averse to DD's - something about being in control, or more likely hearing of abuse by utility companies.

So I thought I'd give EA a try.

It's been perfect money taken when due, a reminder of the new amount sent out well in advance. All simple and no hassles.

So instead of posting a cheque and remembering to have enough funds in the account an much lesser amount goes each month, well within the small balance left in my current account.

No charge for the facility.

You still have to do the paperwork - an online system would be so much cheaper for EA and easier to do - but given the disaster that most government systems seem to be it's probably best left semi-manual.

A bit of a cheek sending out stuff towards the end of the month, expecting the punter to return the bumph pretty will instantly, and then (EA) rising to the challenge of getting the licence paper back to you in time for you to stick it on the boat by New Year's Day.

Still if you don't try you don't get....

E A Charges increase,

I dont know what compensation the E A are making considering that the only non tidal navigation will be restricted below Chertsey Lock to Teddington Lock for a period of 5 Months as of the 14th. November 2011 until March2012.

It makes it an attractive offer for boaters moored below Chersey.

No compensation.
Your licence only covers having the boat on the water, NOT actually using it.
That latter is covered by the Right to Navigate - for which you pay nothing....

Anyway I gladly suffer the lack of cruising in the winter months - when my trips would be few anyway - for the benefit of having the locks work hen I do want to use them.

Given that Chertsey Lock needs repair and renovation, when would you prefer the EA to do the work?

I am sure the workmen would much prefer to do it in the summer with nice weather. However, the vast majority of boaters would be up in arms!

Just learn't that licences are being issued from the National Customer Contact Centre in Rotherham in a couple of weeks time.
