Following received yesterday from EA:

This is to let you know that the public consultation on our proposed navigation charge increases for 2019 to 2020 and 2020 to 2021 is now live on the gov.ukwebsite. You can access it at here . Click on the link in the blue box which says ‘The consultation is being held on another website’. When you get to the overview page, scroll down to the bottom and click ‘respond online’.

We encourage people to submit their response using this online tool which will enable them to manage their comments more effectively. It will also help us to gather and summarise responses quickly and accurately as well as reducing the costs of the consultation. However, if they prefer to submit their response by email or post, they can email enquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk using 'Navigation charge proposals 2019 to 2021' in the title. We will send the consultation documents and a consultation response form to complete.
All completed email and postal responses must be received by Thursday 30 August 2018 using the consultation response form.

We will also be promoting the consultation via a press release to trade and local print media, social media platforms, as well as through local river-based businesses.

We ask you to share it widely among your members and those whose interests you represent. The consultation will remain open until Thursday 30 August 2018.

Thank you for your assistance and much-valued input.

Quote from the above EA announcement -
"Thank you for your assistance and much-valued input"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ......
In your dreams BooBoo.

(I'm always cynical about surveys as quite often the 'fudge factor' come into play to distort the results)
OTOH it's YOUR opportunity to make your feelings known and NOT only on the direct subject of the price increase. SO please complete the questionnaire as best you can

Thank you for responding to this consultation.

Following the end of the consultation we will produce a consultation response document and this will be published on this consultation’s web page by 27 November 2018 . If you have given us your email address we will email you to let you know when this has been published.

Thank you

Increasing rowing club charges by 7.7% is a pittance. Even a 100% increase would not be enough.

It's a rip off anyway. The more they take from us, the less the Treasury will give them the following year. And the vicious circle will continue until the only people on the river are the wealthy and the ever increasing number who refuse to pay.

I'll have to try again on a PC. The iPad kept crashing and reloading their cookie heavy pages,

if 95% of the respondents say that they don't want to pay the EA even more money, they will still put the charge up to whatever they like. The EA know how to put the con into consultation.

It is important that boaters do respond so that, not only are their concerns identified, but they are counted in the total response count. Far too often boaters tend to just shrug their shoulders and the result is that the EA claim they must be content as they have not indicated otherwise.

Because this is a public consultation responses will be from all complexions of river users. We would do well to make sure we are well represented.

The previous consultation prior to this years 5.7% increase attracted 870 responses IN TOTAL many of which were from non boating interests.
The analysis of issues and views was as follows:
2018-07-21_14-07-48.jpeg

There are over 8,000 powered craft owners registered on the Thames - Imagine how these results would have been impacted if even 1,000 of them had bothered to respond !
Note that just 191 said that lockside assistance was important and only 125 wished for more river patrols. We all know that this is not a true representation of boaters views.

If ever there was a time for boaters to unite and demand change in the way the river is funded and managed it is now. Please , please don't just let this opportunity to be heard pass you by.

Respond yourself, encourage other boaters you know to respond, make sure everyone in your club responds. Fairly represent your personal views but DO IT !

I've just completed the online consultation though remain sceptical that my contribution will make a scrap of difference unless all 8000 of us respond.

I agree.
Perhaps we should vote with our feet and leave our boats ashore or move elsewhere for at least a season. Seriously reduce their revenue.
Suspect it would make f.. all difference.

Quite apart from the logistics challenge...

I've just completed my response to the consultation on line, though I have very little doubt that it was a complete waste of my time doing so.

The EA management simply have no desire to seek other funding options and until they do they will never have enough money to properly fund their activities.

And that just about sums up this massive waste of time!

If everybody thinks the same as you then EA will draw the conclusion that boaters don't give a jot - and they'll carry on regardless.

OTOH if enough folks make an effort to give a considered opinion there's a chance - albeit slim - that somebody, somewhere might take a tiny bit of notice.

I understand what you're saying, but I can't think of any changes in the last ten years which proves me wrong... :nonchalance:

Just bumping this up to the top again to encourage/remind those that haven’t yet responded to the EA Charges consultation.
