The EA are extending the overnight public power provision to all the hydraulic locks on the Thames.
EA Announcement
Also note:
Please note that to prevent us incurring extra costs or reductions in service during the day, we do not intend to physically attend to customers who get stuck in the locks overnight. We are briefing the team who deal with out of hours calls so they can talk customer through helping themselves instead. Instructions are displayed at each lock.

Deep joy.....as they blast past at 2.30am.
Still if you enjoy Acid Trance at 11 on the volume knob and the sound of your props touching the gravel in the troughs of the wash..............it won,t be me creeping around so as not to cause problems to other moored river users at that ungodly hour.
C,mon seriously, why would anybody be moving at that time of the night, down here the locks are useable 24/7 and yet very very rarely does anything move after dark.
What is it you lot so desperately need to do after the sun goes down.

Will make a note to have a CD or two of "Acid Trance" on board for when I see you on your next visit to the Thames...

Seriously though, I have often been out on the river after the lock keepers call it a night, could be anything from getting home late from a tidal trip (and thereby saving a day holiday by travelling late at night), to needing to get a head start after work on Friday night, when you have an event organised for Saturday and need to be there before everyone turns up.

Concerned that the only assistance available will be over the phone though, know of a friend who got stuck in Bray lock late one night due to a faulty sensor on the head sluice, how exactly do they fix that over the phone?

But doesnt that just mean a peaceful, secure single berth at no cost for the night? :D

Good. Basically. :) Don't really subscribe to all of this imagined increase in illeagal movement and antisocial late night behavior. I have to say as a river bank moorer I notice wash more than your average marina dweller - I deal with it every day (and night) and there is NO noticeable increase between the time the lockie goes off duty and the 2200 power off time. The river pikies have always been able to move around after dark up until 2200 with power and later with a bit of hand cranking if they so desired....
