EA Enforcement activity

Word from horses mouth.

1. Take a list of names
2. retire to boat to use laptop to look up records.
3. stick notices on boats (they are doing it now)
4. Give about 3 weeks grace to sort out licence
5. Start proceedings process if not sorted out.

and 26 boats out of 300 in Shepperton last Thursday

So if folk are using boats without a licence does that have any implication with invalidation of insurance like it does on a car? Not happy if there is the potential to have uninsured boats in the marinas although we had to show a copy of ours so maybe at least that is mandated?

In general there is no relationship between Registration and Insurance unless the registration authority requires it for registration,

In the case of a Thames Registration then there is a requirement for registered boats to have 3rd Party Insurance to £1,000,000

The registration forms state that they reserve the right to check this. However it is a one way relationship, you cannot register without insurance but not registering does not invalidate your insurance (based on reading my policy which is "any UK inland or coastal waters, not requirement to register)
