Commented in a previous thread about how many boats we saw during our two week trip which did not appear to have a current 2014 licence on display.
Also only saw one EA patrol launch out and about during the whole trip from PH to Abingdon and back.

Would be interested to hear if any forumites have actually seen evidence during this season since 1st April, of enforcement activity - i.e inspectors actually checking boats other than lockies when boats passing through locks. Anyone seen a visitation to check any marinas recently?

Would also be interested to know if any of you find yourselves actually keeping an eye open or noticing boats that appear not to have a licence.

Feel free to PM me if you prefer not to post here.

Had the EA down my way last week. Affixed an enforcement notice on the barge two boats up from me, and saw another notice on a boat in Windsor town centre. They are about, but maybe not with the frequency we would like...

They were done last week as I understand and full marks to the EA Officer who instigated the patrol. It was a pleasure to see the “red notice” stickers on the license fee dodgers. When is enforcement going to get out there and tackle all the other boats? Recent trip up to Oxford and back we saw one patrol launch out; they were not checking boats not displaying a 2014 licence. I lost count of all the boats I saw that did not display a valid licence. Some in very close proximity of Kings Meadow House!

Still plenty on the boulters to bray reach.some tucked away, some on show.
One belongs to someone who uses it in the evenings and really should know better and set an example!

If we humble boaters can see the boats that do not display a valid licence why can't the EA Enforcement officers out on patrol? There is one small boat moored above Boulters, QE3, has not shown a licence for years.

Went for a stroll around Shepperton Marina this afternoon and saw a couple of boats with stickers. One was dated yesterday.

Maybe one of them is mine. My licence is on the window which is covered by the windscreen cover when on the mooring. :-). I thought they normally stayed out of the marinas? Clearly not the case!

........and good thing too, skulking in marinas/cuts/ and other backwaters is no longer an option for those who do not wish to contribute towards the upkeep of the river Thames
Some argued that they should not have to pay any licence fees due to their location , this matter has now finally been clarified and if you float on it ........you pay.
The minister responsible for adding to the confusion, has been moved on and up and now is in charge of
Beach Holidays in the Falklands or similar.
Easy way to avoid charges, simply remove your boat from the water and put it ashore. :)

It's nice to see they have been in to the marinas, I agree with that. I just hope they had a copy of the database rather than sticking notes on boats they couldn't see the disc? I've had that before and had to provide proof so was guilty until proven innocent. Not going to worry about it until my next trip to the marina.
Perhaps we should have a tag system so you 'swipe' in and out of marinas and have the equivalent of ANPR on the main channels and then if we include gps trackers on boats as mandatory (better for security which could also double as an anchor drag alarm) then it is self policing and we wouldn't have to fill in passage plans for the border agency either as they would know where our vessels were better than we would. He he.
Whilst I was chuckling inanely to myself whilst in my own little world writing the para above my parting words.... We know where all the sheep, cows and pigs are in this country and sensors on wheelie bins but have no idea where undesirable residents or unregistered boats are. Shall I start a new thread? Perhaps not :-). Good morning 'oldgit' and the rest of the contributors. Hope you have all survived the poor weather yesterday.

I am told they will have a laptop linked to the EA registration data base which can verify those boats that are registered for 2014 even if they do not show a valid licence.

It would be interesting to know how many boats the EA had registered before they started to target the non registered and what the results are now. Knowing the EA they would not be able to give the information for one reason or another.
