Hi
Does anybody understand the new cabin luggage policy.
I have a case that was inside the old sizes, now slightly too large. however it says something like it will be placed in hold, but no mention if it will cost to do so. or at cabin crews discretion may be allowed in cabin ?
cheers bobt

Nigel Calder explained this on R4 recently. Basically the policy is designed to reduce cabin overcrowding as too many people are trying to squeeze maximum sized bags into the overheads. There will be no charge if you are nominated to have your bag transported in the hold but you will face the inconvenience of having to collect it on arrival - my guess is that if you already have checked in luggage you will be more likely to be asked to add your hand luggage to the hold.

As far as I can see the old size is still allowed as cabin baggage, but is not guaranteed to be accepted, so they might require you to put it in the hold. That will apparently not cost you anything, but of course you don't want your valuables like your laptop put in the hold. My intended tactic is to take the old cabin case, with my laptop in it, but contained in a soft case. I will also have a thin fabric bag inside, in which I can put the laptop and other valuables to take on board if they insist on putting my normal bag in the hold. I have looked for bags that meet Easyjet's new guaranteed cabin size, and can only find ones that are slightly bigger or much smaller.

The policy is here http://www.easyjet.com/planning/cabin-baggage and if you book an upfront seat with speedy boarding you are still guaranteed to be allowed the old size.

Thanks both

I am taking a gas BBQ without the gas bottle total weight is 23.5 kg I have paid for 3 kg extra weight on the page it says

3 kg + £21 00
6 kg + 42 00

I presume that this means that I am paying up to the 6 kg price or am I paying £7 per Kg and will have to buy 24 kg I F...ing hate this flying nonsence

If you fly with Aegean, each extra 20kgs costs €25 and you can keep adding more and more for the same price! We came back from the UK in March with 105kgs of hold luggage at an excess baggage cost of €75 for the extra 60kgs.

Anyone would think that sleazyjet deliberately worked out the size of existing available baggage and then how they could force more people to buy checked in luggage at £20 a time .............

:p

And as hand baggage consigned to the hold under this policy is not charged your point is what, exactly...?

£28 for me to buy a 20kg hold bag for our return trip to the UK from Naples in 2 weeks time......that's on top of the £1450 I have already paid for 5 return tickets.

Grrrrrrrrr

Or,putting it into perspective..

Assuming you are flying to/from a London airport, the total return distance is approx. 2000 miles.
Each return ticket is £290 .00, so you are each paying 14 .5 pence per mile.

You are truly being ripped off.

Naples for £290 return high season.....remember the good old days before sleasy and dan dare..Alitalia would probably have charged you double that at least but the bag would have gone for free!!!

Oh, I agree - nothing out of the norm here, but painful to my finances all the same.

Having seen how effectively a Neapolitan can squeeze oversized baggage in overhead lockers I know they will never pay for hold baggage unless forced to at gunpoint. I expect Easyjet will have to employ armed counter staff soon....... :)

I think you are correct, I have flown with Easy jet for years, the only trouble /problem with luggage is on the outward trip .Anything goes on the way back !!!
