Hi everyone, just aquired an old Volvo Penta C5 single cylinder petrol engine with a dynastart. I've a spark but not sure how to connect the Dynastart so I can turn it over. The connections are:- 30 D- DF & D+
Which do I connect to a battery?
Thanks in advance.

The short answer is +ve on terminal 30 and -ve on terminal D- should activate the starter function. The long answer is that there should be a charging regulator attached and wired to the instrument panel. You can get an idea of how it should be wired by looking at an old Volvo Penta manual, something like this one might help - look for the MD1B wiring diagram.

suggest that you do a Google, cannot find my work-book, regulators from Bosch are dear, use the alternative market. trust that this is of help.

Hi, I have a wiring diagram on jpg if its any help I can email it to you. I also have a complete manual for an MD1B but it is the diesel version. I'm having a dynastart rewound at the moment.

Re: Dynastart manual

Many thanks everyone - have just wired it as suggested and after a few turns it started! Very noisy as there is no silencer but will check it over over the next few days.
