I was just wondering, as you do, about the duty free status of the Ch Is. If you call in at Alderney, say, on your way to St Malo, and again at Guenrsey on the way back, does that entitle you to two "allowances" upon your return to UK? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Why not? Surely the first set of goods entered the EU in St Malo so are not considered on the return leg from the CI.

Or is that too simplistic?

Well, I did as suggested and rang the helpline. The lovely girl who answered said

"You may under these circumstances bring in a double ration, but you must have evidence that you put into an EU port in between and retain the reciepts"

Thus, reciepts from Bucktrouts in Alderney for the first lot, followed by the marina in St Malo (or wherever) and the reciepts for the second lot even if they were also obtained in Alderney, provided the date was shown on each recipt. The onus is on the skipper to show that he did actually put into another EU port before getting the second lot.

It's down to the customs inspector whether he would accept a supermarket reciept as evidence of an interim return to an EU Port which is why a marina reciept was /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifsuggested.

I know what MY passage plan for next week is...............
