'Dutchman repair' to teak

Hi all,

True to form, whilst trimming a couple deck plugs I managed to drop a very sharp chisel onto my cockpit seat which, in the same way that toast always falls butter side down, took a gouge out of the teak about a 5-10mm deep and about the size of a thumb nail... bu**er.

My first instinct was to simply fill with a quality teak filler but of course that wont 'silver' with the teak and will be a constant reminder of my clumsiness. Having searched around I see that the proper way to deal with the damage is a 'dutchman' repair but this looks mighty dangerous since not only does it mean me handling a chisel again(!) but also digging out yet more of the teak before epoxying in a new piece of teak.

Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or tips for making the dutchman repair a less daunting task for as DIY numpty?

Thanks in advance

Mark
