May go exploring on the dutch coast this summer - anyone know what the requirements are for the inland waterways? Didn't MBM or somesuch do a cruise up there recently?

The Almanac said something (not handy, so possibly duff memory) about requiring coastal skipper - and I know there's additional requirements for 'speed' boats.

Cheers,
Rick

13.2 metres, 30 knots and both radar and VHF (non-DSC).

I figured I'd need the CEVNI, already have the ICC (and of course radio license). The almanac says "Craft > 15m LOA or capable of more than 11knots must be commanded by the holder of either an RYA Yacht Master (Coastal) or (Offshore) or Coastal Skipper's Certificate plus a Helmsman's certificate" which is a bit more than I'd have expected.

Rick,
Unless you had a very early ICC I would expect it to have a CEVNI endorsement anyway (?).
I had thought the ICC provided necessary competence - no doubt the RYA can confirm. Will log on and enquire.

The following seems pretty explicit -

Generally, an ICC is required when navigating the inland waterways of Europe, the main notable exception is The Netherlands. In Holland an ICC is only required by vessels that are either longer than 15 metres and/or capable of more than 20 kph (~ 11 knots). If cruising to Europe to explore the canals and rivers, both categories 'coastal' and 'inland' will be required and so the CEVNI test, as well as proof of general boat handling competence, is needed.

If you do need to add CEVNI to your existing ICC then let me know as I am aiming to do exactly that and am working on arrangements with another forumite to facilitate....

Re: Dutch Coast & Inland Waterways

I do not think you need anything else but to have a nice time !

The dutch are very welcoming and seapk very good english, when we got to Flushing last year boats from Belgium arrived which didnt even have chartes !

They foolwed us to the lock a bit hidden !

The whole family loved the Meer's and Midulburg was a laugh ! my Favorite is Wiliamstown but you need to get in early in the summer, Best bit was having pizza take away on deck and have the guys deliver it on boats which are piled 8-9 boats out !

Duncan - I did the Day Skipper practical and got the ICC because of that, so I don't have the CEVNI. If you're orangising a CEVNI test, then count me in! (Best get doing some reading, I guess! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
