Dutch \"apologetic\" over red diesel.

Does this mean that the Dutch will refund the money they took from a British yachtsman? (He posted about it here, but I cannot now find the thread.)

Glad to hear this as I shall be heading that way in August.

Just a thought though; Will we have to drain our tanks of red after the 2008 change to avoid been fined in the future and even if we did would all traces of red diesel be removed from the system?

You will still be entitled to use Red deisel purchased in Jersey, (keep receipts) and frankly outside the 3 mile limit you will still be able to use it.

I can see multiple tanks coming into play!

Here is the original thread.
I hope they do give him a refund but I'm not holding my breath.

Haven't got to the apologetic bit yet. Better not say what I think here - still want my money back.

Anyway, we have a letter from HM Treasury to the MP for our UK constituency saying that a Sir Humphrey at the Treasury has been in touch with a Sir Humphrey at the FCO and they have been in touch with a Netherlands Sir Humphrey and they were all at school together and it's all sorted now and they'll all meet up in Tuscany in a few weeks.

The text includes the phrase.. "Treasury officials have been in touch with their colleagues in Foreign & Commonwealth Office, who in turn have contacted the Dutch Customs [should be Netherlands - otherwise it's like saying you contacted Yorkshire Customs, but cannot get it all right can you? Ed] Then blas on with suggested ways of getting the money back

Real point is have a receipt and wonder what will happen after November 2008 - whether that is November 1st or 31st is far enough away not to worry me.
Anyway I'll make a pdf of the letter and pm it to Norman NoBoat.
Busy drafting the claim for my money back!!
News as things develop.
Try not to slag the cloggies too much, a: I want my money back and b: I think we forgot to tell them what the UK was doing.

I think (unless anyone can advise me otherwise) that there is no real problem with the term "Dutch". I believe there was a problem during / immediately after WW2 re. confusion between "Dutch" and "Deoich"(sp?). There is certainly a problem with saying Holland when Netherlands is intended (cf regarding England = UK).
