Dusseldorf Boat Show

Banned from going this year, as I went last year and bought a boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Its a great show though, you'll need plenty of time to get around it all!

Agree with rickp. Its an excellent show and much better than LIBS but you really need 2 days to get round it all

2 days

blimminek, you must be a quick runner. It's two days if you don't stop anywhere very much at all and don't visit some of the halls. There's a hall larger than libs full of chandlery, another about the size of libs with diving gear, another biggeren libs with sqaily boats, then superyachts with 108 in the corner. And so on, the marine art hall, the boating holidays hall...

Re: 2 days

Nah, trick is precision planning for visiting stands of interest whilst discretely ensuring avoidance of any stands where SWMBO likely to buy anything. Well tried tactics honed in Brent X shopping centre

Re: 2 days

I went back on our last (3rd) day and found another hall of mobos that I'd not seen before! I couldn't believe the size of the show, and had no problems getting on any boat we wanted to look at apart from the Flemming 55. In the end, a Sealine sales person we knew got us on that boat (!).

We stayed in the Arabella Sheraton at the airport (courtesy of Starpoints /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif). Nice hotel, bus direct from the hotel/aiport to the show and easy access into Düsseldorf itself.

German Wings do cheap flights to Cologne (Koln) from Birmingham, and there is an express train from the airport to Dusseldorf which only takes 20-30 mins

We used to exhibit at the big packaging shows in Dusseldorf.
During these shows they bring in floating hotels that get moored to the riverbank - sort of small ships - walking distance from memory from the halls. Accomodation was a bit rough - breakfasts ok - bars good - views superb - close to the centre for restaurants etc - not too expensive from memory.
Not as posh as the thing at LIBS.
If I were going - I would check and see if there are any available .

I do believe if you but a Boot ticket (Dus boat show ) then combined in the ticket is free use of the Rheinbahn “Uban” transport system which is basically an over ground tram system connecting you to most parts of the city & suburbs. There are plenty of hotels in the city especially around the Altstadt/Old Town where you can find plenty of good quality modestly priced restaurants / bars. If you do go please drink some ALT beer for me!!!
