Duoprop outboard

Saw this yesterday, but haven't seen one before. Do yamaha offer them, or is this aftermarket, or even home made?

They were fitted to a certain type of 150hp - offshore or racing or something

I guess it didn't catch on or sell well as I don't see very many of them

I was told about this Yamaha outboard by Mark at MB Marine. He has worked on them and supplied them when they were new. Apparently fantastic outboards however, Yamaha dropped it soon after launch, the reason was cost. Even when they were still quite new the dealers were having to write outboards off if they had a gearbox problem because Yamaha were charging £12k for a gearbox... ouch!

Yep, on big Yams for just a short period. I saw a few, was ages ago, like 5 or 6 years ago

Yamaha even did a bolt on jet unit in the early 90's, too hard to control at low speeds for the general operator though.

You got to hand to the old yammy's, they certainly have a go. The local yacht club guys couldn't close-quarter handle the jet units (could be something to do with being raggies!).
A proper operator with a single jet is something to behold.
