Anyone else going down to the Dubai show? If so - any recommendations on hotels? Burj Al Arab gets a lot of coverage in the press - but at £1200 per night for the cheapest room, it's a bit too strong for me...

Cheers
Jimmy

not going to the show, when is it? but assuming its at or close to the Marina the the One and Only Royal Marage ( Palace or Arabian Court) is superb and just a 2 minute cab ride. The new Westin is also close by and good. Beware staying too far from the venue, due to traffic congestion , Dubai is as bad as London

Only thing I will say is traffic.........lots and lots going nowhere fast..

I would go large chain they are all as good as each other..

Also if you have not sorted the flights you can even book a mini break with Virgin or similar at a good price also you can upgrade (flights) far cheaper.

Le Meridien Mina Seyahi is right on the marina (I stay there when watching the Class One powerboating)...must confess I don't know where the boatshow is on but Le Meridien is the next plot of land up from the DIMC pictured here:

There is a new hotel just opened next to Le Meridien (sister hotal but I forget the name) they were rumoured to be doing discounts.

Good tip, didn't know that (it's been 18 years since I was last in Dubai).

Hi Richard

Hope you're doing well, good to meet you back at LIBS (seems like ages ago!). Are you coming down to the Dubai show? (I want to say DIBS, but somehow it doesn't sound right...).

Flights all done, with Virgin, they've got some great deals as part of their 25th birthday promotion.

Cheers

Hi

Yep LBS seems a very long time ago!! not going to Dubai this year we have exhibited before but not this year, I still think its about 5 years before any serious boating takes place down there. Great fun though.

Yep the Virgin flight is good although its overnight going out and very early coming home however I did I have the pleasure of sitting alongside Jim Davidson last time.........

Cheers

When I go to Dubai on business I stay at the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel. It's a typical 5 star business type hotel in town but the rooms are excellent and the service first class. There are also 4 good restaurants on site so you can eat a different cuisine every night. Cost about $250 per night but sometimes you can get a discount if you're lucky. It's not a scenic location and it's about 20mins taxi ride from Dubai Marina but it's central

The hotel picked us up, but I suppose you can do it either way. I was tagging along with Deborah last year, whilst she was meeting hotel management at a few places. The Jumiearah?? Beach Looked good, especially for children. Madinat?? is enormous and has boats to take you from one area to another.

We were dossing in the Hilton. Nothing special.

Try a call to Southall Travel. Or direct to Jumiearah?? Beach Hotel. I do know there down on bookings, so might get a good deal. It's right on the beachif thats what you want. Also has a very Engish pub.

Yes, a lot of hotels run courtesy buses to/from the airport but I go Emirates business class generally because a) they're good and b) you get a limo (well not a limo, a Volvo) from your house to the airport (if it's within 50 miles) and a Volvo at the other end to take you to your hotel and the reverse when you return. Taxis in Dubai are readily available and moderately priced so it's not a problem if you have to get one. The only issue is sometimes the drivers can't speak English too well so write down the name and address of the hotel
