Does anyone who has a Simrad DSC radio have any views on the audio level of the alarm. A phone call to Simrad was responded with a message that they would pass my comments on to the manufacturer???.
The level may well be ok above the level of a power boat but not when under sail.

I heard one on another Yacht, I was about 50m away. I had assumed they had the volume turned up. From your post it implies its a set volume if so I would agree its far to loud.

The audible noise of the alarm is very loud but if I was in trouble at sea I would be glad it could be heard over the sound of engines, sea and the weather.

Mine is far too loud (even under engine in the wind). You have no control over the volume.

I question whther it should only be that loud for maydays; in France/CIs last week the bloody thing was going off every hour as Jobourg Traffic announced various securites - for things like large tankers in the Shipping Channel 60 miles from my position.

I think there should be some user controllable settings.
I also think Jobourg Traffic should stop sending DSC alerts for routine traffic.
