On our way out of the Crouch yesterday we picked up an Unspecified DSC Distress call which the plotter marked up as due south of the Nass pretty much on the beach. Anyone know anything?

How strange. Was on the Blackwater Sunday (30th) up river of Bradwell breakwater when someone quite clearly and calmly came on 16 and said. "Boatname something-or-other, Mayday," just once. I heard no more. No response from Thames either. Offshore I'd have thought about a mayday relay but as we'd earlier had a crystal clear chat with Thames it seemed unnecessary. Mysteries of the deep!

BTW Mudhook back on here temporarily as I'm shortly doing a coastal delivery assist. Formerly Pelagos of Woolverstone.

We were running out of the Crouch on Sunday, and had 2 DSC alerts come up, about 10 minutes apart and about half a mile apart. 2 different MMSI numbers I think.

Lots of bleeping from the radio and chart plotter. Not likely to miss it! :p

I did hear Thames calling the first one though.

Ian I think we passed you as we were leaving Tollesbury about 1615. I said to my friend, "I used to have one of those!". I believe my old Sabre Pelagos is still going strong down on the Crouch somewhere, maybe North Fambridge.

Did you wave ? ;)

Nice to have seen you, even if we didn't actually meet !

p.s. to all forum contributors who visited Tollesbury. Sorry to have missed you all, there is an open invite to visit us out on the saltings any time you can find us :D. Tea, Coffee, beer, wine usually available.

much like AIS transponders on boats that stay in the estuary, another toy

Ian...I waved as I always do to fellow travellers. I was on a cream coloured MG-looking Springtide 24. If I remember correctly Apogee has a green hull. Tollesbury always seemed to have more than its fair share of Sabres, including that one in the yard that some chap spent ten years doing up.

Afraid not....

But Tollesbury does seem to attract Sabres ;)

Not sure I agree with that.

Had it been a genuine distress signal, the chart plotter already had a position and the option plot a course to the casualty.

This would instantly give me the distance, bearing and time it would take to get there, so that I could, if appropriate respond to the call.

Toy? A lot of the time, but in the case of a casualty nearby definitely not. Discuss ;)

I'm pretty sure that I saw Pelagos on the Crouch recently, although I don't know where she lives or who owns her.

This is interesting , coz we passed you coming out the crouch , can't remember exactly where but I think it was around the buxey bouys and my radio didn't pick up a thing , yes it is dsc and yes it was on and on 16 , wonder why it didn't ?? Mm

Interesting discussion here!

Ian: Red, green. Whatever. I knew it was another colour but white or blue! I think there's a green one on one of the pontoons. I usually get red and green right by the time we meet some buoys!

We left Tollesbury at 1620 and passed you somewhere near the lightship still in Woodrolfe creek.

The first dsc alarm was a fishing boat in the Medusa I believe, the second was a false alarm at Whymarks beach. The owner had a bad connection on his radio and was trying to fix it. There was also some poor sod on the Colne bar for a couple of hours.
