DSC interface Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2 (GPS) ICOM IC-M411 (VHF)

I tried and failed a couple of years ago to interface the above and perhaps have just discovered why?

GPS uses NMEA2000

VHF uses NMEA0183

According to their manuals.

DSC calling rarely works with other manufactures, I have similar kit and managed to get it to work once more by accident when I used a nmea0183 to 2k converter at the same time as nmea 0183 was wired from HDS to radio, changed wiring to fit something else and never got it working again and gave up trying.

The HDS has NMEA0183 - the wires are in power/data cable. NMEA2000 will have a separate 5-pin connector in back of unit.

DSC calling is a separate issue to just getting a GPS position into VHF.
