Not the retorical question one might expect at this time of the year! I am new to the Tamar and am wondering if there is somewhere on the river suitable for drying out between tides for scraping of and antifouling during the season? My boat has legs draws 4ft 6 in and with a long keel.
Thanks David

Not a local myself but this club may be able to help you. They are a friendly bunch and there is a drying out wall there according to their website.

For such a large piece of water there are not many obvious places to dry out. Saltash seems to be one of the most popular just upstream from the sailing club. There may well be other places such as St Germans up the lyner or at Cargreen by the pub. The other option is to go up to the quay at bridge end in Newton Ferrers. Try posting on the 'reader to reader' forum as there are more locals that read that section.

Go a mile higher than Cargreen to Weir Quay. Friendly yacht club there with good ground, I'm pretty sure, on or near its boat ramp. Mike Hooton at Weir Quay Boatyard will offer some advice too (01822-840474).

There's a beach at Turnchapel which has an almost perfect slope for drying out alongside the quay wall, administered for a small fee by my employers - Plymouth Yacht Haven. This has the advantage that while you're waiting for the tide to recede (or come back in again) you're only a few small steps from the Boringdon Arms - home of Plymouth's best real ales! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
