Hi there,

We're looking at purchasing a really well maintained Sea Ray Sundancer 260. It is currently being kept in a marina, however the mooring is very expensive and we would have to move it to a tidal mooring.

My understanding is that the mooring would be on soft mud. Our biggest question is whether anyone has experience with keeping such a boat on a dry mooring, and whether this would be suitable? The last thing we would want to dl is purchase the boat and cause damage to it due to it drying out twice a day.

Any information appreciated

TIA

Be a bit careful . You will dig your leg into mud every day twice a day and its asking for blocking the cooling water intake . On the other hand i simply love such small tidal harbours

I'm not overly familiar with the hull form but aren't Sundancers quite deep V? In which case she might lean over a lot when dry. There are a few of these deep V sports cruisers around Jersey and most have drying legs. We used to have a Fletcher Zingaro 29' which needed drying legs.

We have in the past owned a Searay 250 sundancer. And a 240. Both for 5 years each.
In soft mud you will sit level.
We always put the leg fully up if drying on mud.
We had a summer berth one year that dried to soft mud on big Springs only.
At the end of the season it took a long time to clear silt from the cooling system.
Also the bellows are vulnerable to damage when sitting in mud with leg up.
Some say leave leg down but that for me gets more mud into engine and maybe strains the leg depending on wind waves wake etc.
Based on my experience I would not berth permanently where it dried out every tide.
