dry stern gland

stern gland was leaking too much .having repacked the gland it is now completely dry is this ok?

Does it get warm when you're motoring? If not, I should think it's fine. The oft quoted figure is a drip a minute, but I don't think mine leaks at all and it's fine.

Hi & welcome
try turning the half-coupling by hand first thing on a morning when everything is "cold" if the shaft turns without much effort it will be ok.

Hi , I have always been told that it should drip. if not its not getting lubricated enough and you could risk problems when running it dry, like wearing out your prop shatf for one. At least if it drips slightly you know its ok.You should be able to turn the shaft by hand without the grip of the stuffing.
