Hi all I need to have a look at the water pump impeller on a 65hp 3cyd suzuki outboard its about a 1989, today I undid all the bolts on the lower leg, and the leg is free drops about 15mm but something is stopping dropping right off, unfortunately I dont have the manual for this engine so I dont know if there are any gear selector rods to undo, but I cannot see any, have any of you guys any Idea what may be stopping it coming free.

Regards Nick.

Hi Nick

I think you could be right regarding the gear selector rod,if you look into the
cowling and follow the linkage from where the selector cable joins in,you will
see a small rod with a dog leg in it,this linkage goes right into the centre of the
cowling the end of the linkage goes through the gear selector rod.To release
the rod the linkage needs to be drawn back, this can be done by slackening
off the small bolts at its end nearest the selector cable.
A pal changed the box on his 55hp in jan',be careful not to pull gear selector
rod out of the gear box or you will suffer a trip to the man with "ker-ching" in his eyes!
My pal had to have the rod refitted by a main dealer, not a happy man!.
