Is there a deadly difference between the performance of a flat-plate drop keel, and one which is faired and streamlined? The slot in our boat is ample in all directions except width so there isn't much room for keel thickness shaping. Info gratefully received. Tonyg

wouldnt think so..my privateer has a 400lb galvanised job, square edged & only half inch diameter..this pivots at the front..the extra free space width wise in the box is crucial to free the silt, mud or whatever!!i did take it out and overengineered the pin diameter, adding a s/s bush which greatly reduced the usual slap you get with these..regards
