Has anyone driven to Greece recently? We usually take the Superfast ferry from Ancona in Italy to Igonoumitsa and then drive to Preveza where our boat is wintered, but Superfast and Anek lines have amalgamated, and so probably due to the lack of competition, there are no special offers as in the past making the fares prohibitive. We have considered not taking the ferry and driving all the way, but are a bit worried about this with a dog. Has anyone any experience of this, or suggestions of alternative ferry routes? Any advice much appreciated.

Why are you worried? You don't elaborate.
As long as your dog has had a microchip implanted and had a Rabies Vacc & it has a 'Passport'. There is no problem.

I came through ancona to igou last week with minoan - missing another ferry strike by a day. With the cancellation of the venice ferries until June I guess there will be more customers. I paid almost the same fare as last year (although I booked early). Can only suggest no cabin and just aircraft seat as crossing so short.

Hi

We did the return Bari-Ignoumesta over Easter - selling our boat. Only a 9 hour crossing so cabin not needed and aircraft seats available (even if you don't pay) but extra driving in Italy (and tolls !! 42 euro Ancona to Bari each way). The road was fine. Ferry cost car plus 2 adults 288 euro. Don't ask about Italian fuel prices - filled up in Greece before we left.

We moan about our car tax but the total toll each way came to about 180 euro travelling through France and Italy.

Good Luck

Jim

Depends on the dog. One of mine only needed to see an open car door and it leapt in. It promply sat down and started looking out of the window. The other one would travel in the car but needed lifting in. It promptly curled up. Both were similar sized labx

Last month, I drove to my boat in Turkey and back utilising the Anek Lines ferry from Venice to Igoumenitsa. The ferry was very reasonably priced and had dog/ cat kennels on one deck. Ferry takes 24hrs but for me was a good midway rest between the two drives.
