The fastest one!!

We drove from Dover down to Cannes in a day last year (about this time too). Autoroutes are terrific and very lightly trafficed. Speed limit is 80mph ish in the dry, but we may have transgressed this once or twice...

Great trip down, and we had a great time visiting St.Tropez, Monaco, Cannes, etc etc whilst we were there, then drove back across the famous N85 Route Napolean over the French Alps on the way back. Just amazing scenery.

Good luck!

Interested in your post, as I am planning to drive down to south of france at the beinging of June. Planning to go to St Tropez, Cannes & Monaco, but to take 3 days getting their. Interested to read Ari's comments.

As ealier post I some time ago I found fuel cost on AA web site after a bit of searching.

Does any one know what the potential is for hiring a RIB or small sports boat, for a few hours at reasonable cost?

touch cheaper than the uk nowadays, so don't fill up before you get there, and likewise, fill up at st Hilaire befoe Calais on the motorway vefore you return.

To southern france it is about 750 miles depending on where your target from calais. The flics sem to enjoy a 35 hour week so if you want to tavel above the 130kph speed limit, go at night. Having run out of fuel once, i follow a 4-stop strategy. Yes, you need the fastest car you can find, and nail it! It is quite feasible in 8 hours or even less, but you should be underway at midnight and at highish speeds it can be quicker thru paris cos the motorways are wider and faster than the 2-lane stuff via Troyes.

If you have not yet done so, try speedferries.com

I'm taking the motorcycle over to do the Alps and Nice, Monaco and they are doing Dover-Bolougne, any vehicle for 38 pounds return. I just received an email from them now offering a two for one deal!!
