My new engine and prop installation has not been a great success.
I now have considerable rumbling noise and some vibration apparently from beneath the cockpit floor (where the prop is). Prop is a new Featherstream. Company who fitted engine (who are not at Levington) maintains there is no problem but something most certainy is not right and they don't seem to be interested enough to come and see themselves.
Who is a good reccommend as a respected and capable engine person to give it a second opinion and have enough credibility for the original fitter to take notice?

I am no mechanic, but is the prop wider in size than the old one ?

The tip clearance from the deadwood of the prop needs to be around 20% of the prop width to ensure no turbulence against the hull.

Please ignore the above if you have a different set up .

I’ve not had a new engine, but when my engine bearers were replaced a few years ago it resulted in strong and noisy transmission vibrations . The fix was to increase the tickover speed for a few weeks of usage. I was then able to return to a more normal setting without the bad vibrations.

If it is a prop in an aperture in front of the rudder then the suggestion of checking prop tip clearance is worth following up. Also the blades in the drive position (forward or reverse) are likely to be in a different position in the aperture compared with a fixed blade prop. I replaced a 14" fixed 3 blade with a 15" JF (predecessor of the Featherstream) and although the tip clearance was still within 15% diameter it was definitely more noisy than the fixed prop.
