I have been recommended Drivers Wharf to store my boat over the summer months.

Does anyone here know about or use this boatyard?

Am interested to find out:
1) How secure it is?
2) What the facilities (Loo, Shower, changing etc) are like?
3) How long does it take to S'hampton water?
4) Slipways nearby as understand they use crane, whcih seems expensive?

Many thanks for your help and assistance

We used them last year for a lift out in the winter.

They do a dry storage where the lift in/out is included if the boat is stored there I believe.

The site is fairly secure with coded padlock gated access when the site is closed.

Facilities, erm........... not great, I don't know if they have showers as we only live round the corner from them.

To Southampton Water it is only about 15-20 minutes.

There is a very good slip next to the Itchen Bridge that we have used in the past and is easy to get to from Drivers.

The people there have always been very friendly and helpful when we have had dealings, also some of our neighbours use them for winter storage.

I hope this helps, and welcome to the forum

I've used them for years - they used to be Merlin over at the big shed in Hazel Road.

It's run by Gill Williams who's very helpful.

There are some things to note:

It's basic. No shower, no changing, toilets in portacabin.

Can be crowded on shore, parking etc.

The scrap yard next door can make your boat an interesting colour if the wind & their ship loading times are against you.

You don't say what boat you've got, but mine's 10 tonnes & this needs a heavy duty crane which operates (normally) at weekends - never been a prob for me as I'm normally only lifting for engineering work etc but may be for you.

It's very handy for Soton Water & the helpful attitude makes up for a lot.
