Does anyone know of a source for anti-slip belt spray. I've asked at my local car spares shop but he said he stopped doing it because of lack of sales.

Isn\'t that infuriating?

Isn't that infuriating? When you desperately want to buy something, and every shop you go to says "there's no demand for it"!

Mail order...

It's usually called "Belt Dressing". Rocol is a popular brand. You can get it by post from here.

Its' a special spray that you spray onto your alternator drive belt if it slips slightly. It makes it sticky and gives it more grip. Used to be available everywhere years ago, now not so much apparently.

Great, thanks. I've been looking for that stuff as well.

It's nice to know that such a product exists though thanfully I am not in need of it.

For the benefit of anyone who is not aware of it, I understand that using a toothed belt instead of a plain one helps greatly.

The toothed belts seem to last longer as well. At least the three I put on my car 20 years ago are still in service!

Gates belts...

Toothed belts certainly are good, and I've had excellent results from Gates belts. In the long run, it pays to buy the best quality belts you can find.

You shouldn't need to use any dressing with modern belts.
As said earlier, use Gates Cogged Raw Edge belts, and if tensioned correctly, they last a long time.

Old joke, isn't? You're the tenth person today I've told there's no demand for it any more.

You can get belt dressing from BSL look in the yellow pages under engineering supplys or do a google search for BSL they have branches all over the place.

Or as a tempuary you could rub a candle around the inside of the belt this a trick we use in my trade from time to time when we dont have any belt dressing to hand.
