Just came across a really well written and illustrated set of how to guides, the one that reinforces what we have been saying about stuffing boxes for some time is interesting.
Not only does the water flow/drip help keep the stuffing cool and lubricated it also helps prevent corrosion of the shaft. Water is good for bearings shaft and stuffing as it cools and lubricates but it needs movement to prevent oxygen depletion, and a route to release air.
