Who gets dressed up for Xmas these days,
When we were children, we used to wear our "new smart clothes " for Xmas and one set of Gran parent or other would be there for Xmas dinner, [lunch time] if not to staying for a few days,We all made the effort to look our best.

Are there dinner dances anywhere outside of London or another large city now?
Firms do not seem to do the Xmas dances or party's that they used to.

Does anyone dress up these days, I mean full tucks and long dresses, It all seems to be smart but casual.
Be nice to see some elegant people as most people clean up rather well. I do think a posh look photo does wonders for ones moral when one is feeling less than elegant.
So do you have one?

The cruising clubs on the Thames usually each have a Black Tie Dinner & Dance once a year, although not necessarily at Christmas. The Windsor Yacht Club is this Saturday and everybody will look very smart.

All the best

Royal Southampton, Ocean Village, cracking Black Tie do at Xmas and 3 or 4 others throughout the year, highly recommend. Give us a shout if you would like to attend as a guest, I'll se if there's any tickets about. Totally agree lovely to see ladies in their finest, I look like a dogs dinner whatever so makes little difference really.

Julie,

I can't help feeling you've posted this on the wrong site. If you'd put it on Scuttlebutt, you'd have precipated a 100 post thread, with everybody vying to out do each other with tales of full-on scruffiness, and fond recollections of the paint spattered smock that they used to wear to the Cruising Association annual pie and beans dinner. This would then split into several sub threads, with musings about when it is acceptable to wear a defaced blue ensign, who should give way when two women in evening dress approach each other, and why, oh why, do dinghy racers always get in your way, even when you're ashore?

Over here, you're just going to get a load of waffle about gold plated cufflinks and leopardskin pillbox hats /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
